I am David by Anne Holm

 David, a 12 year old boy, in a concentration camp, stuck with millions of people he doesn't even know.  

He makes the decision to escape, and run far away from camp. He plans on to go to Denmark where he'll be safe (he hopes).

David makes it. Just. His plan works to escape, but he hasn't got luck on his side just like that. A few more obstacles lie in his way. But he doesn't know.
