Dark, magical and exciting, Cat Weatherill's new fantasy takes the legend of the Pied Piper and gives it an unexpected twist. Mari and her brother were special. Their mother was a magical elf. She lived in another world where the Pied piper lived. A world full of danger, wild magic and adventure.

The Piper was very mysterious, he wanted something from the chidren, something special, powerful that could break an old-century curse. While the children were being transformed to animals, the brother was way behind. He was actually the chosen one, the kid the Piper needed. He had the power of his mother too.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw

Let's face it: Greg Heffley will never change his wimpy ways. Somebody just needs to tell that to Greg's father.
You see, Frank Heffley actually thinks he can get his son to toughen up, and he enlists Greg in organized sports and other "manly" stuff.
Of course, Greg is able to sidestep his father's efforts to change him. But when Greg's dad threatens to send him to military academy, Greg realizes he haqs to shape up... or get shipped out.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

Whatver you do, don't ask what Greg Heffley how he spent his summer vacation, because he doesn't want to talk about it.
As Greg enters the new school year, he's eager to put the past three months behind him... and one event in particular.
Unfortunately for Greg, his older brother, Rodrick, knows all about the incident Greg wants to keep under wraps. But secrets have a way of getting out... especially when a diary is involved.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

"I'll be famous one day, but for now I'm stuck in middle school with a bunch of morons"
Being a kid can really stink. And no one knows this better than Greg Heffley, who finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving.
In Diary of a Wimpy Kid, author and illstrator Jeff Kinney introduces us an unlikely hero. As Greg says in his diary:

"Just don't expect me to be all 'Dear Diary' this and 'Dear Diary' that."

SideWays is our name!!!

The naughtiest girl again by Enid Blyton

This is a wonderful book about a young girl
called Elizabeth who goes to a boarding school
called Whyteleafe. It is her second term here
as well as the second book of the series.
It is all about elizabeth (who was the naughtiest
girl in school last term) trying to be good
as she kept getting into trouble. But someone wants to spoil things for her. And they're not going to let her forget how she got her nickname! I don think there are these books in the school library. I bought mine in FAHASA. They have the whole series!

Angel Unlitmited " The Cosmic Collection"

This series of books are amazing. I've only read 2 of the books "Calling the Shots" and " Fogging Over". Which are the 4th and 5th books of the series. And now I have begun the 6th book "Fighting Fit". If you are able to find the 1st, 2nd or 3rd book, can you please tell me.

If your into adventure this is a book for you (well it's for girls). It's about this 13 year-old-girl that is an angel. She died of a car accident the day after her birthday. She could never imagine what heaven would be like, but now she knows. Its like a whole different world. Still school, shops, gyms, cafes.......Although she is still able to see earth by going on field trips at the angel academy. The academy trains angels to become guardian angels, to help humans. She has already been assigned on a mission (in book 4) but some field trips can also turn into a mission (in book 5). There is so much to discover in these books and when you start you can't stop (well I can't).

Want to find out more? Look in the library, I don't know where you can find them but i have book 4, 5 and 6. In a collection called the "The Cosmic Collection".

There are many books about this adorable, hilarious girl who always wanted to explore new things together with her moods!
I think their are in the library...

Judy Moody saves the world was the first book that I ahd read about her. She was very excited when her class was learning about the world's enviroment. She got a little bit too far when she trew away everything in her house that was made out of trees from the rainforest. But she came up with a great idea to save the world from pollution, she decided that her school will recycled thousands of plastic bottles. It's time for her to HEAL THE WORLD!!!

Doctor Judy Moody was also a good book. Judy is now interested to be a doctor. She wanted to set an operation on Mrs Green Pickle(which is a pickle). She showed off that she will not get sick but at the end when a doctor visited their school. Judy Moody got chicken pox so that BAD ENOUGH FOR HER. But she always get better when her friends help her. Read the book for some more details.

Judy Moody-Around the World in 8 and a half days was an interesting book about friendship and teamwork. There is a new girl in school called Amy Namey. Judy became friends with her and she totally forgot about her old friends: Rocky, Frank and Pearl. Meanwhile, there was a class project and Judy and her old friends had to do about Italy. But she spent most of the time with Amy. How will she help her team now... :(

Judy Moody got to have a chance to actually see college. Her teacher said that she needed a tutor. Her tutor was at college and she was called Chloe. Chloe helped Judy be good at maths by playing some maths games. Judy had fun at college, plus, her maths skills had improved. She even started to dressed like Chloe. But her friends wanted to join college too... ;)

There are even books about Judy's brother, Stink!

Harry Potter and the order of the Pheonix

I think that Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix is one of the best book that I have read although i haven't read the 6 and 7Th i think that from the first one and the fifth one,I think that the fifth one is the best. I think that it is the best because in the fifth one there is suspense and action.JKRowling really shows who Harry Potter is However in the first or second it only tells the story and the problem.I haven't seen the movie yet but i think the book is better like all the other ones.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Here is the first page of the first book:

Kinney writes it as he is Greg and it his own diary (journal). I think this is a good style of writing as you know what their opinion on something is. If he wrote it as first person then it wouldn't be that good of a book and it wouldn't catch the readers attention.

By the way there is also a 'Make your own Diary of a Wimpy Kid' which is the same style but lets you fill in YOUR opinion on something.

Dead History

You might also like the DEAD FAMOUS series too. They are quite like those Horrible science and muderous maths but they are about famoous people in history. I don't blog much about fiction because I prefer non-fiction.
The DEAD FAMOUS are also very funny. Check them out!!

Check it out

Check out those Murderous Maths, Horrible History, Horrible Science or The knowlege series.
They are abselutely amazing...

... Usually, history, geography and even math lessons may be boring but with these books, you learn more and enjoy yourselves. Check out some of the quizzes, plus, in on of the books called 'The Incredible Internet' shows you some very strange web pages.

In primary, there should have been some of these books. Now, there are tonnes more. Check it out! Become a fan!!
Feel free to blog about non- fiction too, 7B.

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

New Moon is the second sequel of Twilight series. The story is about seventeen-year-old Bella Swan falling in love with a hot guy who turned out to be a one-hundred-and-six-year-old vampire. I think you probably know Twilight already and have also watched the movie. Anyway, here's a little information about the book:

On Isabella "Bella" Swan's 18th birthday, while unwrapping a gift from the vampire's family, she gets a paper cut. Jasper, the youngest vampire in the family was overwhelmed by her blood's scent and attempted to attack Bella. For Bella's safety, Edward decides to breakup with her and move away from Forks, leaving Bella heart-broken. What will happen next? Well, you have to find out by reading the book !

After the success of Twilight, the movie won five awards from MTV Awards, ten awards from Teen Choice Awards and a nomination for Best Fantasy Film from Saturn Award. For its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, Twilight has made $69.6 million from 3,419 theaters! The next sequel, New Moon is no longer be directed by Catherine Hardwicke, it will be directed by Chris Weitz instead. This new movie also has new characters, Michael Sheen as Aro (the leader of a powerful Italian vampire coven known as the Volturi) and Dakota Fanning as Jane (a vampire who has the power to torture people with illusions of pain).

New Moon (the book) is in the library if you want to read the book and the movie will be out in theatres in November 2009.

From left to right: Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, and Robert Pattinson.

Here is your structure to help you with your BIG , IMPORTANT essay on Stanley....

Structure of paragraphs

•Make a clear point about how Sachar presents Stanley at the start of the novel.

•Select a relevant quotation.

•Say what the quotation means and suggests about the character of Stanley.

•Choose an embedded quotation (the key word) from the quotation and explain what it suggests about (how) Stanley's character (has changed).

•Explain what the effect is on the reader- how are we supposed to feel about Stanley at this stage.

•THEN, IN THE SAME PARAGRAPH- WHAT ELSE DO WE NEED? (THINK HOW THIS QUESTION IS DIFFERENT TO THE LAST ONE!)

•That’s right, we need to make a point about Stanley later in the novel, find a quotation to support it and repeat the process above!

Structure of essay

•Introduction- say what you’re talking about and outline the main ways that you think Stanley has changed.
•At least 3 paragraphs explaining (P.E.E.L) explain- so how many quotations will that be?
•Conclusion- explain what you think Sachar’s intention was in presenting Stanley like this. What does he want us to think about him? Is there a message he’s trying to put across?

Remember to my expectations on presentation!

Enjoy!

I like all the different kinds of character and I'm very happy about Stanely's change.
I really like this books!!!
Everything is fantastic!

Louis Sachar used short, dramtic sentences to show clearly what Bradley is feeling at that time. But instead of just writing "His stomache was churning", he used a simile "There were pain and agony, like a knot in his stomache..." Sachar wrote a word"tichter" betweem the 3 sentences, which was a speach from Carla that Bradley remembered, to make the reader desperately wants to know what Bradley is going to do next. They could also understand that Bradley could not forget Carla, although he tried to but it cause him pain.

That's what I think makes it so good, I haven't think of other ideas yet on what makes it so good. When I read up to that part I agreed that it was a brilliant sentence but could not know how..-_-
I FINALLY GOT MY HAIRCUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

White Fang by Jack London.

This story is about a half wolf and half dog. It's siblings and father died leaving it's weak mother taking care of White Fang. He had learnt how to hunt for food and fight. They found a tribe living nearby and were taken cared by beaver, who is a man. White Fangs tragic happened when his mother had to go far away hunting with the other men. From that day on he was not protected by his mother, he had to face danger on his own.

White Fang grew up without kindness or affection. That made him more deadly, clever, quick and stronger. He battles with the other dogs, which always end with him winning. People hated him so Beaver had to travelled along with White Fang to Yuko. There, Beaver traded White Fang to Beauty Smith in return for alcohols. Beauty Smith wasn't beautiful, he was ugly cruel and greedy. He used White Fang to fight with the others, if it wins then, Smith gets all the money. White Fang was treated awfully, that mads him hate human and fierce to everything.

Later, he was rescued by Scott and Matt. He was badly injured for losing a match with a bull dog and Smith kicking him savagely. Scott took care of White Fang, but he couln't cope with it because White Fang was always biting him. He decide to shoot it but White Fang was too clever to be killed. Scott knew there was something special about this dog. Days went by White Fang was healed and turned to his old self again. He loved Scott, he enjoyed there fun together. One day Scott had to go back to London. White Fang followed. In London, he thought men humans were gods, he couln't believe how strong and powerfull they are. White Fang had a new enemy called Colli, Scott's old female dog. She enjoyed teasing him. :D

However, White Fang enjoyed playing with children and stealing the chickens. He wanted to prove to the family that he was a special dog. He injured a buglar one night, therefore the family decided to keep him as a great, smart pet. The reason why i chose this book was beacause the 2 main characters in holes and this book were treateed badly throughout the story. But they always found out something special in them and will find happiness in there lives one day.

P.S: there are more details in the story that I haven't told. Not sure if there are in the library though:P

The Metamorphosis

This is the book that i'm reading right now. The Metamorphosis!

One day Gregor Samsa awakes from disturbing dreams to find out that they were real... he had turned into a dung beetle! He thinks that it will all go away, but he misses his 5 o'clock train! he stumbles out of bed just as the manager arrives at his house. he demands that Gregor opens the door, which is quickly denied.(nobody wants to find out that their once faithful son has turned into a beetle)Full of regret, Gregor opens the door. The manager leaves the house in terror.Gregor's dad shooes him into his room, whacking him at the same time. Gregor falls into a coma-like sleep.

When he wakes up at dusk, Gregor finds that his sister, Grete, left his favourite food. he tries to eat it but is dismayed that the food that he once loved was now repulsive to him.

Grete discovers this and makes Gregor some food scraps, which Gregor ate. And so, he would be fed twice a day.(yuck!) Gregor assumed that his family would be left penniless after his disasterous transformation, but suprisingly his father had managed to save up a small sum of money.

Back then, when his dad's business had collapsed, Gregor worked with extreme determination and went from stock clerk to a travelling salesman! And in no time, he was able to delight his family with his financial success.

Those were splendid times.....

But soon after, his parents would still accept his earnings, but no special felling of warmth accompanied with it anymore. Only his sister stayed close with him.

Gregor spent many nights feeling ashamed because of his situation. Trying to diminish his sense of captivity, Gregor would gaze out of the window, but as each day passed, his vision grew weaker...

Gregor no longer wanted to eat, and for recreation he would crawl on the celing and the walls. Soon after, his mother and sister came into the room to take away all the furniture. Gregor tries to save a painting, but terrifies his mum instead. As grete rushes to get the medicine, Gregor offers to help, but is beaten into his room by his dad, who jams an apple into his back. Just as he delivers the final blow, Gregor's mother asks him to be spared.

Days passed, and the family members grew to forget about the incident. Normally, it was Grete's job to clean Gregor's room, but one day Gregor's mother cleaned it instead. This resulted in chaos, and so both of them were not allowed to clean in the room again. Gregor's dad advertised for a cleaning lady. By now, the family had gotten into the habit of using his room as a storeroom. They had also taken on three roomers. Later that day, Grete was practising violin when she was asked to join them outside to play for them. However, Gregor was drawn outside by the music, and the three roomers immediately took notice. As they wnet to their rooms, they declared that they would not pay for their stay.

As Gregor crawled back to room, he was terrified by what his parents wanted of him. They thought that Gregor would understand and voluntarily leave the house, but he didn't, so they thought he was an animal. Nevertheless, Gregor thought of his family with love, and passed away....

When the family discovered this, they decided to move house. They fired the cleaning lady, and shooed the roomers away. Despite of their recent troubles, Grete had grown into beautiful lady, and was the first one to rise after their long journey to their new home.

I still can't decide which book is better!

"Holes"or "There' s aboy in the girl's bathroom!"

I remebered one but i am not sure if it was right:
"Carla's words were swirling around his head, he could not concerntrate on anything. There were pain and agony, like a knot in his stomache, which keep getting tighter. He tried forgetting it, but it was hopeless.
I am sorry Bradley, but there's no choice,
The knot got tighter,
but we could meet each other again,
and tighter,
I'll meet you this Saturday, we could have lunch together, okay?
and tighter...
That's all I remembered as a good sentence, I thought it was a great one:)

Hi

Just Testing

The Day My Bum Went Psycho!

This book is about a boy called Zack Freeman. He's an ordinary boy, except that throughout his whole life, his butt has been annoying him.(no,seriously, his butt detaches and starts fooling around!

Anyway,His bum runs off at midnight and rallies up a whole lot of bums to serve the 'almighty' Great White Bum whose plans are (unknown to the bums) world domiantion. After Zack sees all that, he runs down the street. Soon after he is ambushed by cluster bums he fall into a drain and meets a very vain bum called: 'The prince' and his clumsy sidekick, Maurice.

Just as Maurice tries to torture Zack, A Bum-fighter called Eleanor comes to his rescue and shoots the bums with staples, drawing pins and rusty nails. Eleanor leads Zack to her bummobile and go off on various adventures with the famous B-team(The Smacker, The Kicker and The Kisser. You can guess what they do to bums!) They travel to the great windy desert, Took down the Stenchgantor(the Smelliest bum EVER)with a pair of stinky socks, crossed the Sea of bums (not to mention gettting trapped by siren bums) and they finally reach the bumcano to defeat the Great White Bum!

Unfortunately, The Kisser betrayed them and pushed The Smacker and The Kicker off the cliff! The B-team's old friend, Ned Smelly, tries to help them but The Kisser kills him too! The Kisser thinks that bums are not evil, which he starts rambling about.... He lowers himself to the crater of maggots ( filled with disgusting mushy liquid, courtesy of the bums that Zack's bum rallied)

and starts to stroke them and cuddle them. (?!) However, the maggots, hungry for The Kisser's love, drags him down. The Kisser calls for Zack and Eleanor's help, but got sucked in before anyone could do anything.

The Great White Bum appears, so does the Legendary Bum Hunter,Silas Sterne.(Eleanor's dad) Silas offers Zack his harpoon and asks him to shoot 'that giant white butt' which he scores a bulls eye! The Great White bum calls for his 'army' to help, but Zack's bum finds out the truth and shuns The Great White Bum.

Somehow, Zack's bum flies into the so-called lake, which Zack rescues him from. The Great White bum gets mad and tries to escape to a hiding place to plan his schemes but gets stuck in the crater hole. :/ Zack offers to light up the bumcano with a match (Flame + Tons of methane gas= BOOM!!!) while the others escape. Therefore he is nominated for the hall of fame. When Zack lights the match, the WHOLE bumcano goes kablooi and The (so-called invincible) Great White bum flies into space. Zack survives by making a parachute of The Great White Bum's skin.

After the ordeal, they go to Ned Smelly's house (The Smacker and The Kicker were rescued) To PARTY!!

The End. Thanks for reading!

Guys where is the English blog thing i cant find it

Level 6 model paragraph for Holes

Ok then chaps and chapesses, here is the structure for creating a great paragraph to show understanding and analysis of language in "Holes" (or for any text):

Sachar uses a short, dramatic sentence to make The Warden seem powerful when he writes that,
" The warden owns the shade."
This implies that The Warden has power over everything in Camp Green Lake. This makes the reader curious to discover more about The Warden and the extent of her power and want to find out how she is able to "own" something which is usually free and available to everyone.

Remember your structure:

1) Clear point about the Warden and the technique used. Every point must be different, of course.
2) Relevant, brief quotation
3) What the quotation suggests
4) Effect on the reader, embedded quotation and explanation of how the embedded quotation proves your point.

And here are the techniques that you will have to use in your own paragraphs and find quotations to go with:

  • Dramatic vocabulary to increase the tension;
    Clear descriptions to create images;
    Powerful verbs;
    Repeated words or phrases

Who can get a Level 6 for this piece of homework I wonder? Lottie? Minjae? Tiger? Will Caitlin's finger ever be the same again? Will Minjae ever get a haircut? Will Yanee ever stop talking? We'll have to wait and see....

The changes were that the personality of each person changes. Like Stanley was good-hearted at the first place but then later in camp he was stiff/cold-hearted because of the way the counselors treat him and the hard work that he had to do. But he did have friends with him.

Bradley was different, he was lonely and a bully at school. But in the end he was friendly and tried to work hard on his studies, which is a thing that he never had done before.

My point is that the 2 characters' personalities changed throughout the story. Though they had hard times in the middle of the story. Bradley was nothing like Stanley in the first place, neither was at the end.

Books I've read before^_^

There's a boy in the girl's bathroom! By Louis Sachar.
This book is about a boy called Bradley Chalkers, who was a bully in the school. There was a new counsellor called Carla and she thought that Bradley could change. She assumed that she could see the good side of him. Bradley was lonely, but he made friends with the new kid, Jeff Fishkin. Unfortunately, Jeff became popular because he was mistaken by the others that he gave Bradley a black eye. Jeff started to be nasty to Bradley, while Bradley was trying his best to be nice. Carla helped him to do his homework, she chatted with him about topics.

Bradley enjoyed the time he spent with Carla. he wanted to be good-hearted but others won't give him a chance. He didn't have the courage to do it too. When he found out that Carla was fired from the school by reason of the parents think that they waste money on Carla's useless help to assistance children. Therefore, Bradley said he would be good from that day on, he would do it for Carla. He made friends again with Jeff. A girl(Collen), who recognized Bradley being kind to her, invited him to her birthday party. Bradley never been to a party before, he was nervous that he would mess it up. In the end, it turned out to be great fun to him. It was his best day-he loved it. Still, he really missed Carla.

I think that this book was a great book, it tells me lessons in real life. There are a good side and a bad side in every person. Like Bradley here. To make people like you, you must be nice to them in a way that they give chances and treat you equally. Bradley tried to avoid the bad side by the help of Carla and himself, though it was difficult in the first place but he didn't give up. Louis Sachar tells this by writing a comedic, friendship story. He used many interesting verbs, adjectives... Additionally he had many catchy sentences that builds up tension when i was reading it. I hope that there would be another awesome book like this.

Missing Abby by Lee Weatherly

This book is so good you could read it a thousand times and still not get bored. There is a series of these books and the others are called ‘Child X’ and ‘Breakfast at Sadie’s’. I mostly enjoyed Missing Abby because it is a fascinating story from the start.

The book is about a girl called Abby who disappears and everyone blames it on Emma (Abby’s old best friend). So Emma and one of Abby’s new friends help her look for Abby at a convention that Emma and Abby always went to when they were younger. They looked everywhere but they can’t find her so they try looking in these underground tunnels her and Abby had always wanted to go to but were too young at the time. Suddenly they see a shadow, but it’s not moving…

(By the way we have Missing Abby, Child X and Breakfast at Sadie’s in our library)

Holes by Louis Sachar

The book 'Holes' is a magnificent story of a young boy who goes to Camp Green Lake.  There, he is made to dig a deep hole in the dry dirt every single day. He is not the only one there at Camp Green Lake. He also meets other boys just not as friendly as himself. All the boys in Group D had given themselves nicknames such as Armpit, Magnet and X-ray.
There is also a movie based on the book which is supposed to be very good.
