The Secret Garden

The secret garden is a very interesting book. Mary Lennox lived in India with her mom and dad. But she never really got to see them, her dad was always at work and her mom was only interested in partying. So she had an ayah- an Indian way to say nanny, every time she was crying her ayah had to make everything her way to keep her quiet from her mother, and that’s why Mary grew up spoiled. But one day she overheard her mom talking about some kind of disease- cholera. Soon they heard a loud scream in the house. She found out that her Ayah was the first person to die from the disease. Soon many more servants were found dead even her mom and dad. After days have past by, two guards found her and brought her to the home of the Reverend Crawford, a poor English minister. He decided that she should go live with her uncle in England, Misselthwaite manor in Yorkshire.
And that’s when Mary comes to live with her uncle and her sickly cousin in their big house on the Yorkshire Moor; she is lonely and ill-tempered, until a robin shows her the key to a secret garden long forgotten. Now, with the help of her new friends, Mary transforms the secret garden into a place of peace and beauty, finding her own happiness and the love of her adopted family along the way.
I won’t spoil the ending for the people that are interested to read it.

Anne Frank

If you have never read the Anne Frank book, well now it's the time.
Its very innteresting and i am sure you all have heard of her. This is a non-fiction book writing by the one and only Anne Frank.
"It is one of the greatest books in the century." said one of the most famous newspapaer.
It was found and edidted by her own father after she died.
If you find her story interesting, you could try vissiting her house (now as a museum) in Amsterdam. It's a great thing to do, my sister went.

Frankenstein

When Victor Frankenstein was a young boy he always wanted to be a great scientist he was very interested in the human body. He had two younger brothers, Ernest and William and a girl that the family decided to take care of which was Elizabeth. She was beautiful and kind. And the first time Victor saw her, for he knew he would fall in love with her.

But one day, when Victor and his brothers were teenagers the mother was dying, she told Victor to promise her to marry Elizabeth. And he was glad to keep the promise. But they were still so young and he still wanted to be scientist. And so he promised that when he would come back from school in Ingolstadt in England he will marry her right away.

And so he went on his journey. Few years past and Victor finished school. But there were more things that Victor wanted to know about the human body. And one day he thought of making his own living human. After researching in books and with famous scientists, he was ready at last. But it wasn’t easy; he took years to make it. He stayed in the laboratory all day and night without sleep. He missed every season that passed outside the window. He was in a dark room by himself with a candle light. But after few years, he finally finished what he has been making.

That day that Frankenstein finished his experiment he was ready to power it. But once he had put it into life he just noticed how ugly and big the monster was…
If you find this interesting, which I thought was super interesting; you could probably find this in the library.

Soon their dreams of an animal run farm turn sour in more ways than expected! Hens rebel, Snowball(another pig) joins another farm and most of the animals are executed after confessing to their own crimes!! The 7 commandents of Animal farm are also not followed. I haven't finished reading the book, so i'll update you all soon!

Coraline

I've just started reading Coraline. It's been made into a movie too. Has anyone seen it or read it?

It starts of with a girl named Coraline Joneses who has moved into a building, a very old and big building in fact. Her family didn't own the whole house since it was way too big so instead they owned part of it. There were other people that lived in the house, Miss Spink and Miss Forcible lived in the flat below Coraline's (on the ground floor). Miss Spink and Miss Forcible were both old and round, they once have been actresses, as Miss Spink told Coraline. Above Coraline's flat was another flat and a crazy old man with a big mustache lived there. He told Coraline that he was training a mouse circus, to Coraline, she thought he was making it all up.

Everyday she goes out exploring around the garden. She found a black that watched her but when she tries to come close and play with it, it just runs away. But then one day, it was raining so she wasn't allowed to go outside. Her dad suggested on counting blue things in the house or something like that, so Coraline did. She wanted to go into the drawing room, the drawing room was where they kept the expensive furniture Coraline's grandmother left them. She counted the doors and there was one that was locked, in the drawing room. She asked her mum where it went and her mum said 'Nowhere, dear'. When Coraline's mum unlocked it, there was a brick wall. It was a different flat on the other side of that wall.

That night she stayed awake on her bed. She heard something...A noise. She followed it. It lead her into the drawing room, there was a shadow. It ran into one corner. Coraline turned on the light, but nothing was there just the door that lead to nowhere. She was confused and went back to sleep. She has a dream, with shapes, little black shapes with read eyes and sharp yellow teeth. And a song.

Next morning, she met the crazy man again, 'The mice have a message for you,' he said. 'The message is this. Don't go through the door.' The day was normal.

Next day, he mum was out so she took the key to the door and went into the drawing room. Guess what, she opened the door, although this time there was no brick wall only a dark hallway.

Here's the trailer of Coraline:

Arabian Nights

‘Arabian nights’ is a very interesting story. There were two brothers living apart from each other. The older, King Shahryar was more powerful than his younger brother Shahzaman. King Shahryar told his vizier to tell his younger brother to visit him. As his brother came he was utterly sad. Shahryar wanted to know why and so then he asked. Shazaman answered that his wife has betrayed him. Shahryar was very mad and told his vizier to tell all the woman to marry him. He would marry one a day then kill her one the next day. Until there was the daughters of the vizier. He had two daughters and older one, Scheherazade and the younger one, Dinarzad. Scheherazade was very well educated and beautiful; she had read plenty of amazing stories and can tell wonderful stories too. Scheherazade had a plan. She told her dad to send her to marry King Shahryar, he disagreed completely at first but as she told him the plan he let her go. She told her sister that she will send for her sister to come to her and say “Sister, if you’re not sleepy, tell a story.” And then when she tells her sister and King Shahryar stories, King Shahryar would always want to listen and to never kill her, so she would save all the other woman even her sister. If you want to be enthralled with her fantastic fables read this book.

Scorpia

Although this isn't the first book of the series, I'll still review it!

Alex Rider wants to find out about his past, especially after he was told to find Scorpia. He ends up finding them in Venice and abandons his school trip party. As a result, Scorpia weaves a web of lies and manages to get Alex into Scorpia when he knows the truth about his dad. Alex was supposed to be working for M16 but embarks on a mission to kill the Deputy head of M16 (Mrs Jones) who apparently, was the one that gave the order to kill his dad. After being caught, Alex joins M16 again after finding out the real truth(not Scorpia's twisted version) and helps them to foil Scorpia's master plan. What is the plan? Read and you'll find out...

I agree Sean!

Sean makes a good point- I think it's no coincidence that the person who reads the most (Sean) gets the best marks in English.

Who's read The Machine Gunners or Z for Zachariah- wold love to have a discussionabout either of those two- wonderful books for young lads especially.

Wenny has wings

I'm reading this story so I don't know the end. It's a story about Wenny's sister writing a letter or diary to Wenny. They were walking in the road and got an accident. Wenny and her sister died so they were flying up the sky through dark tunnels where the light was showing at the end. But because of that stupid doctor pressing electricity thingy on Wenny's sister's heart, She had to live. She said that it was totally unfair that Wenny has got to live in that lovely heaven and she has got to live in that stinky world with pain in her body. Everyday she writes a letter to wenny.
I like this story very much, and Mr Pollicutt, it's creepy!!
I think most of you would know this story.

Well, you should really read it. though I am not sure where to get it. My dad came home with it...one day. I quite cried when I read about his childhood. His older brother died in the middle of a festivle or something. I can't remember it was 3 years ago! His father doesn't want him to be a shoemaker but he did everything he could to design and actually make the first good looking shoe in his home town...

I love the shoes they look so cool!!!!!!!!! Haha!! I am back with blogging! :D

The Book of lost things

This story is set in world war two, where the main character (David) stumbles into a world of mysterious creatures. David unexpectedly brings his fears into the world and creates monstrosities without knowing it. As the plot thickens, the crooked man appears. He seems kind, but is actually plotting David's doom. This story is so full of suspense, I couldn't put it down! It's a bit disgusting though.

Mostly Harmless

Just when Arthur Dent makes the terrible mistake of enjoying life, all hell breaks loose. The guide reports that it has a lot to say on parallel universes. This info, however, is not much understandable to anyone under the level of advanced god, and since all known gods were made within 0.333 milliseconds of the creation of the universe ( Not last week, like they always say) they are therefore not available for comment right now...
Arthur finds himself in a parallel universe where the Earth has been replaced with a planet called Nowwhat, and immediately escapes it by unkown means. If you want to know the conclusion to Douglas Adam's Hitchiker trilogy read this book now!!

So Long, and thanks for the fish.

It has been widely known that the Humans were the most intelligent creatures on Earth. Right? Wrong. The humans were the third most intelligent creatures on earth. The dolphins came in second, and the mice were the most intelligent creatures on Earth. Read the book to find out why. When Arthur Dent finds himself back on Earth with no signs of demolition, he immediately believes that the past experiances of Krikkit, Pan Glactic Gargle Blasters and the Heart of Gold were all figments of his stressed out imagination. But a talking fish and other oddities thrusts him back to reality.

Life, the universe, and everything

The inhabitants of Krikkit are sick of looking at the night sky, so they plan to destroy the universe so that there won't be a sky to look at.(The guide says:'the night sky above Krikkit is the most boring thing in the universe, because it is pitch black.') Now, the only thing that can stop Armageddon is Arthur Dent and his crew, whom are scattered across the galaxy. Arthur is stuck with Ford Prefect on a prehistoric Earth that a Magrathean called Slartibartfast made. Meanwhile, Zaphod Beeblebrox, as well as Tricia Mcmillian (a fellow earthling who skipped the planet a month earlier)are on Krikkit already trying to avert the disaster. For more pure Douglas Adams humor, you'll just have to read it yourself!

The restaurant at the end of the universe

After escaping certain doom, Arthur Dent is being hunted down by the very people- sorry, Aliens who destroyed Earth. After the whole Magrathea issue died down, Arthur decided to eat at the Restaurant At The End Of The Universe. It's basically a restaurant that's stuck in a time loop, and attracts people daily because, well, everybody wants to know what happens at the end of the universe, don't they? The problem was: how do you get there with bloodthirsty warmongers chasing your tail? And has Arthur finally gone mad when he decides to drink tea when their ship is being bombarded? Read this book! The have it in the library.

Jane Blonde

This is a amazing book, girls maybe more interested but if you like adventure and mysteries this book has it all. It's about a girl who's name is actually Janey Brown and one day, out of the blue this lady (who says she's Janey's godmother) came to her school and told her that she was a spy in training but as she called it spylet. Janey obviously thinks that women is crazy and doesn't believe her. The women (also called as G-Mama) told Janey that her mum was captured by the 'Sinerlesse Group' (they are the villains in this story) and Janey needs to rescue her. I won't spoil it for everyone. Read it!

There is a whole series of it and I have the first book if anyone is interested. Tell me at school.

Kensuke's Kingdom

When Michael's parents lose their jobs, they buy a boat and decide to sail around the world with their son, Michael and thier dog, Stella. But then in an accident, Michael is washed up on an island in the Pacific where he discovers there is no food or water . But then he finds out that someone's feeding him-giving water and food. It was an old man..Kensuke! He was Japanese.....

I actually hated most of the Japanese just because they destroyed Koreans before. But after reading Kensuke's Kingdom, I started to pity them and realize that not all Japanese wanted to start the war. This is the best English book I've ever read. Not HOLES..I wish you can all read this wonderful book.

"My friend Walter" by Michelle Mopurgo

After finishing the amazing story "Hoot" I decided to read a book called "My friend Walter". It's extraordinary story of a girl who finds out that she is related to a famous man that got executed for being a traitor. But she never expected to meet his ghost and get told the real story, or let him live with her. Although this might seem very easy to you and your probably saying to your self "so, it's a ghost, they're invisible you can't see them it'd be easy to smuggle him into your house and keep him a secret from everyone." Well your wrong ghost can very difficult almost impossible actually to keep a secret even she finds it very difficult. What does she (Bess) do when Walter breaks her brothers fishing rood or steals her dads horse.you'll half to see in the book.

Made You Look by Diane Roberts

Made You Look is about a boy called Jason who is willing to do just about anything to be a maniac - a contestant on the planet's ultimate trivia game show, Masquerade Mania. But when his parents surprise him with a vacation in Los Angeles, where the show is filmed, he's really excited.Until he learns the awful truth: Airline travel isn't part of the Percy family itinerary. Instead of flying , they'll be trekking cross-country in a camper that looks like a giant sardine tin. Jason must survive annoying car games with his annoying diva-in-training sister and her younger, diaper-wearing counterpart before arriving at the big moment.
Overall I figured the book wasn't that bad but the ending was fantastic! This book isn't in the school's library but I have so you can borrow it if you like.

About the illustration

How whould we illustrate it? like the thing then the simile? And I don't have the story, can you post it online? to Mr.Pollicut

On Comics and Literature

To answer Mr. Pollicutt's question on Nadia's post about Beano, I think it's probably how their writing can make us laugh easily, and that the comics can portray a 'picture' of what's going to happen without using tons of words.

That's what makes comics so interesting to me! (and the drawings too, if it's manga!)

Manga Books

Can we write about manga books too? Nadia wrote about the comic:'beano' but I don't know if are allowed to review manga... P.S: I can't post comments!!!!
Hello 7B, I am writing this whilst looking at all of your lovely faces in class.

Here are your homework questions to do in your books if you do not finish them in class.

HW due in on Thursday

Toodle- pip

Mr Pollicutt

•Summarise the story in 10 short lines, draw a flowchart of the plot.

Goosebumps: Welcome to Dead House by R.L.Stine
I really enjoy horror stories and Goosebumps types are one of my favourites! It's interesting, exciting and catches the reader's attention in EVERY chapter! It's like at the end of one chapter the author always creats something unexpected for example(this is from the story):

"We stayed quite in this sort of place where I have no clue where it is. Everything was quite and dead still. I started to stroll carefully across the grass. Suddenly I tripped over something solid, franticly stood up and tried to recognized what the object was. There were some words that were carved on the object and as i scrolled my torch across it, I frozed...It said Jim Marrold the person who I just met this morning. "

Thta made me want to read more and MORE...until the end. I read this book when I was in year 5 so I cannot memorized it all though. But what I do know is that this family moved in to a huge, old house where the children hate. There they met new friends but new friends act very weird but one night the children discovered that everybody in the town was......DEAD!!! Read more so you can know. But bad news is that I'm pretty sure there are alot of Goosebumps in our library but I got this book in Tu Xoung BIS school they have like MILIONS of Goosebump. It was so AWESOME!!! But, I manages to find some other Goosebumps in our library hope u like it :D

Warning: these books are not really cool if you do not like ghost or horror stories :P
Here are some of my other favourite ones:

the mysterious benidect society

this is pretty okayish, it may seem a little very strange at some points but on a whole its readable good book when you cant sleep ya know?
its about theese kids who are all geniusses in their own way, they take theese tests and become a secret team trying to infiltrate the lair of the mr. curtain they go in disguised as students and what they discover is very strange indeed, they are comunicating with the dudes they work for by morse code. they are led by the mysterious mr. bennidect who is twins with the evil mr curtain but didnt know it!
its complicated and weird but in the end one of the kids gets addopted one is reunited with their father another returns home after running away and mr. bennidect addopts annother. this all makes a little more sense when you read the book its still hard to understand and explain though.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days Plot (Spoilers Alert!)

Highlight Purple space to read on.

The book describes this as Greg's "worst summer ever." The book begins with Greg saying how he, Rowley, and Trista, a girl which he and Rowley met at the end of the third book, went to Rowley's vacation country club. Trista meets a life guard at the club and never is mentioned again throughout the entire book. Then Rowley tells Greg that he can't invite him to the country club anymore. So then Greg, Greg's mother, and Manny his younger brother go to the town pool. Greg gets grossed out as he goes through the men's locker room. Also, the family hasn't made enough money to go the beach. Also Greg goes to the salon that his mother goes to and becomes hooked to soap operas and drama's he learned about from the ladies at the salon. Rowley and Greg watch a horror movie about a muddy hand that kills people and scare themselves from watching it. Rowley and Greg get too scared to go sleep down stairs and end up sleeping in the bathroom. Greg's dad ends up finding them sleeping in the bathroom and asks Greg why, and Greg tells them they watched a scary movie. Susan(Greg's mother) finds out from the father and makes a reading club for all boys in the neighborhood. The club drops down to one person being Greg. Someone knocks on the door while Greg is reading from a book. It turns out to be Rowley's father and he doesn't look happy and it turns out that there's eighty-three dollars total on fruit smoothies Rowley and Greg had at the country club. So Rowley and Greg make V.I.P. Lawn Service company which was an epic fail. Rowley bails out on Greg leaving Greg to figure out how to bring the money. About a day or two later, Greg goes to the salon and his stylist tells him that Rowley is heartbroken because Greg didn't 't invite him to his birthday party. Greg has a birthday party with just his family and receives many checks. His mom takes all the checks from him and gives them to Rowley's father. Greg receives clothe and other things. He also receives a lady bug cell phone and his cake is eaten by his uncle's dog Killer. Greg's mom takes Manny, Rodrick, and Greg to the pet store and Greg buys a fish and Rodrick buys a fish that's aggressive. Two days later, Greg's mom is taking them on a "surprise trip." Greg believes its the beach because his mom has bathing suits, sun screen, towels, and more beach stuff. Greg finds out its really a slip n slide park. It begins to rain when they are there and they go home. When Greg goes home, he finds out his fish is gone because Rodrick's fish was placed in the same bowl. The next day is father's day and someone asked Greg why hes sad, and he says its cause of his fish because it died. Then his dad tells the story of how his dog ran away to a butterfly farm. Greg's father's father, says he has a confession to make that he really ran over the dog. Greg's father is so angry he leaves his father with the bill. He drops the family off at home and returns with a cardboard box that has a puppy in it. They name is sweet-heart, sweetie for short. Much to Greg's surprise, the dog is annoying and rather hard to take care of. Also, the dog is always on Greg's bed. On the fourth of July, the family goes to the town pool to celebrate fireworks weren't working at the town pool but, everyone ended up watching them coming from leisure's hotel. In a picture of Manny, Greg ends up noticing that Heather Hills is the life guard there and tries to impress her but ends up giving up. One day, Greg's mom tells Greg he has to take Manny with him through the men's locker room because Manny is getting too old. Manny had never been in a men's locker room so he was curious about everything. The next day at the market, Greg runs into Rowley and his family at the super market, and Rowley's mom asked if Greg wanted to come with them to the beach. Greg's mom said yes. Greg ended up going but it turned out to be boring and quiet. Finally, they go to the board walk and play arcade games and play a dollar trick. Rowley's dad came looking angry complaining he had been looking for them for an hour. They got sent to bed extra-early. Greg also gets to ride the cranium shaker a ride in which Rodrick says,'Your not a man until you ride it.' One night, Greg gives Rowley a static electricity shock and shocks him and Rowley does the same to him. At night, when Rowley is in bed, Greg gets him with a rubber band snapping it hardly making Rowley scream. His parents saw what Greg did and sent him home early. The dog ended up being given away to Greg's grandma. The book ends with the photo album of his "best summer ever".

I think everybody knows about Frankenstein but have u read the book carefully seeing every details? It's GREAT!!! Victor Frankenstein had been obsessed with science. He had hope, dreams and a happy family. But there was just one problem that ruined it........forever DUH!! DUH!!! DUH!!! It's is a miserable sotry where people die and you feel sorry for them but it also included Victor suffering for his ownself. He had done a terrible mistake-creating a monster who was friendly but turned hatred to the world for his looks.

The monster hunted Victor's family killing his brother, best friend and wife. But I also felt sorry for the monster, he used to loved the world as his home and life but people seemed to hated him of how he look. He had save a little girl but his gift is a shot in his arm. But he learned about nature and the world. But he was bitter when he read the book of Victor's thought about how he could turn a human back to life.

It's an amazing book. Hope you find it in the library :D

Warning don't get crazy like Victor, it's dangerous!!!!!

This book is almost like a second book of Holes. Although Stanley Yelnats isnt metioned (as far as i have read) X-Ray still appears as quite an important character, though the main character is Armpit. It tells you about Armpit's life after he
has been released from Camp Green Lake and how his personalilty has different from Holes.

The book matilda was written by Roald Dahl. Its a children novel. after the book was published the movie came out.The parents of five-year-old Matilda Wormwood have no interest in their daughter. Although she exhibits strong signs of being a child prodigy, they pressure her to watch television instead of her preferred activity of reading. At one point, she asks her father for a book. Her father merely points out that they already have a television and tells her that asking for a book will make her spoiled. Holes

This is an very interesting book that I've read in class and I've chosen this book because it is very a unique book compare to all the book I've read so far. Holes, written by the excellent author, Louis Sachar, is an adventure and mystery book with a humorous touch. The story takes place mainly at the hot and humid Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention facility where there is no lake, and no happy campers. In place of what used to be "the largest lake in Texas" is now a dry, flat, sunburned wasteland. It hasn't rained there for over a hundred years. Stanley Yelnats had a choice if he would like to go to jail or spend his time at Camp Green Lake, course no one would want to go to jail so he decided to go to CGL.But there's a curse in the family but Stanley doesn't believe in this curse, so whenever things goes wrong Stanley's grandfather would say this is because of your "No-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather'. But can the curse be broke?. The only living plants there were two large trees and a hammock stretched out between the trees. Of course, no one was allowed to lay on it except for the Warden or else they'd get in a lot of trouble. A log cabin was behind the trees and that's where the Warden spent most of her time. The story takes place in the present time but contains flashbacks of over one hundred years ago to explain how the whole plot started. There were five large tents at the camp. A, B, C, D, and E were for the campers and tent F was where the counselors slept.

Wild Magic by Cat Weatherill.

Dark, magical and exciting, Cat Weatherill's new fantasy takes the legend of the Pied Piper and gives it an unexpected twist. Mari and her brother were special. Their mother was a magical elf. She lived in another world where the Pied piper lived. A world full of danger, wild magic and adventure.

But she died sadly leaving the children and their weak farther remembering her beautiful, kind life. Mari and her brother one day followed the Pied Piper with the other children to that world. The Piper was very mysterious, he wanted something from the chidren, something special, powerful that could break an old-century curse. While the children were being transformed to animals, the brother was way behind. He was actually the chosen one, the kid the Piper needed. He had the power of his mother too.

He was going to save his sister from the Beast there. Which was the Piper. Breaking the curse wasn't easy, it is cruel and dangerouse for the others. The rest your have to fead it. It was the BEST book i ever read. It si in the library i think...
