The accidental tourist by Anne Tyler,
Macon is a heartless, unthoughtful, disrespecful, selfish and dull man. No wonder his wife divorced with him. The family was broken hearted since their son was killed at a school trip when a robber shot him. It was tragic :'(
So Macon started a new life carrying with writing books fro tourist and finding something that would actually improve his lonely and non exciting, tragical life. Until he fell in love with a lady who was called Muriel. His life was complicated, DUH it's complicated for me to tell the story but you got to know that's it..its.....okay it's just odd! By the way I found it pretty stupid at the ending where he got a big chance to come back with his family but he decide a stupid decision... there's alos a movie about it!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Dog Days

As you already know from Tara's post this is the 4th book the this series. This book talks about his summer, how awful, fun, boring it was. He goes to the beach, to the public pool, also has a friend over...Have fun reading it, I know i did and Tara as well.

DOGS DON'T TELL JOKES by LOUIS SACHAR

Meet Gary Boone, who is most likely to become a stand-up comedian (well at least he thinks so). He goes to school at Floyd Hicks Junior High School and currently is in the seventh grade (according to the book). He loves telling jokes, nearly everything he says is a joke and everyone calls him Goon, not the teachers obviously but he does tell them to.

Even though he tells jokes not many people laugh at them, only his dad, Angeline and her family. He was in the fifth grade when he met Angeline, she was 8 years old but put in the sixth grade because she was smart, thew smartest person in elementary school. She told him that he was the funniest person in the world, so to him it didn't matter if nobody laughed at his jokes. She moved though, to Manusec School in Nebraska where she learned astrophysics and nuclear chemistry. You still see more of her in the story.

He doesn't seem to be so popular since everyone doesn't play with him at recess and lunch. Although he tries to join in playing football, all he does is just hike the ball, nothing more.
But then an opportunity came along, a talent show to celebrate Floyd Hicks birthday. He was completely into it, the first to sign up but something goes wrong...he quits. Why? That's for you to find out.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Professor Aronnax is a scientist; he studies about the sea and sea creatures. But the year 1866, sailors reported an odd sight. They saw something faster and bigger than any sea animal. It could have been a narwhal or a man made ship that could go under water. But they still hade no idea how anything like that could be possible. It was seen by too many people to not be true. So Captain Farragut, secretary of the Marine, invited Professor Aronnax to come on his ship to find the beast or any sort of man made thing. One night the “beast” came, Professor Aronnax harpooner friend, Ned, threw a harpoon attached to a rope held by Professor A., to the “beast” which caused no harm to the creature. In fact the rope pulled Professor Aronnax of the ship which made Ned fall off too. Professor Aronnax butler, a great man that loved to serve Mr. Aronnax, Conseil, jumped in too to help his boss.
The three friends ended up on a metal surface. It was the “beast”, but no it was a submarine. Just a few minutes later a door appeared to open and two men invited the three men in.
The two men did not speak their language. But the captain of the submarine did. Captain Nemo. They introduced each other. Captain Nemo sent Ned and Conseil to their cabins but kept Professor Aronnax to himself to eat dinner and talk. Then he showed Professor Aronnax around the submarine. Professor Aronnax was very pleased to stay here, because it was the best place to learn about the sea.
At the end of this adventure, over 9 months. Stepping foot on South Pole, discovering the lost ancient continent under the sea, Atlantis and most of all travelling 20,000 leagues under the sea. But at the end, Professor Aronnax escaped the submarine with his friends never will he forget about this great adventure with this great man, Captain Nemo.

The good Earth

This book is about China in the industrial times. This book shows the hardships of a farmer, and his good days and bad days. When his crops are all harvested, he goes through a 'golden age' pf happiness. However, winter arrives and nothing grows. The farmer is soon forced to move to the south and beg for food. The farmer and his wife survive the hardship and return to the town. He joins the others to raid the richman's house and takes ownership of it. From then on, he lives peacefully in the mansion, and his 3 sons who stayed with them through their hardships grew up to be succesfull buisnessmen.

The ending is for you to read, if you want to. Though this book won awards, I don't think anybody is interested in this anymore, but if you are, then read it! This book is very emotional in a way.

Just Disgusting!

This is definitely a hilarious book. Almost everywhere you look, there's something funny to be read. The page number duck gets up to loads of mischief, and on the sides of the page there's always something to read!

I'm sure for the people who were in year 6 can remember the short story: 'brussel sprouts'. It was seriously funny and weird. There are other stories too, like: 'deadflyella', 'the stupid boy and the very big slug', 'two brown blobs' and 'fun with Andy and Danny' are sure to make most people laugh at some stage. The corners of the page are used too, in a flip animation sequence that spans the whole book.

All in all, a seriously good read. If your'e interested, you can try reading the other books in the Just! Series.

Just Disgusting!

This book is not like all those old superhero novels in the: Villain robs bank, Hero shows up and beats up Villain, Villain goes to jail for the 14th time style. No siree. This book actually puts you in the shoes of a Villain and a hero in the 21st century. No more masks and capes. The beginning of the book puts you in the villain Doctor Impossible's shoes and how he breaks from prison, then the next chapter puts you in the shoes of the newly formed cyborg Fatale as she recruits herself into the creation of the superhero team, the New Champions, and so on. This book is definately reccomended, 'cause its like a breath of fresh air from all those Marvel antiques like Spiderman and the Fantastic Four.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning thief by Rick Riordan.
The the story of an a boy who he thinks he was ordinary until he found out who he reall was in his biggest adventure ever. And now instead of going to school and skateboarding, he spend most of his time fighting monsters and discovering new things. This story is really good because we just finished our greek myth nad in this story includes all greek myths!!! Cool huh??? :D

Dogs don't tell jokes by Louis Sachar

Im not sure where the story gets its name from.
But in the beginning, a boy called Gary W. Boone, tells jokes all time. He has always waned to be a standup comedian but everyone doubts him as they say his jokes aren't funny. So Gary practices everyday at home instead of finishing homework. The night before the great Talent show, a girl called Angelina, a close friend of his, phones him up to say that she felt something bad was going to happen. Something VERY bad...
I would really recommend this book because its really humorous. the author is also Louis Sachar. This book is in the library too!

A.L.I.E.E.E.N

To me,there are four types of Graphic novel. The first one is an adaption of a book or a film. The second one is a retelling of a historical event. The third one is meant for humor and comedy. The last one is from different countries.(ie: Manga) However, this book is unlike any other graphic novel. It doesnt fit in into any of the groups. This book, as said by the author, comes from outer space. Don't believe me? Read the book! There are no words in this book, not any English words, that is. This book is in alien language. Don't belive me? Read it! For a book in an undecipherable language, there are not many that can explain the story with little or no words, even if it's not English.

This, is one of them. Never before have I read a book so bizzare in my life. These stories of the aliens are so weird, yet it makes you want to read more. It can get gory, but that is probably the only downside. I can't believe little alien kids read this!!

A book that thinks out of the box in illustrations, storyline and and plot, I liked it alot.

You would probably like it too.

animal farm

this book is about animals rebelling against humans. Mr Jones (the owner of manor farm) and his men are very nasty to the animals so one day old Major ( a pig on the farm) calls all the animals together and tells them to rebel against Mr Jones. three days later Old Major dies and the animals get so fed up with Mr Jones that they attack him. He gets so scared he leaves the farm. the animals, very happy and excited then work together to build animal farm. at first there were seven commandments and he most important on read 'all animals are equal'. the pigs , who are very clever take over, the two main ones are Snowball and Napoleon. Napoleon then kicks Snowball out and tells the animals that he is secretly working with Mr Jones. Later on in the story many animals are found to be working with Snowball and they are killed. Clover, Boxer (horses) and old Benjamin (a donkey) are sad to see that what they had started out to do became a disaster. after a while the humans come back again and Boxer is badly wounded he then dies at a horse slaughter place, while Napoleon tells everyone he was actually in the hospital. Pigs started to move into the farmhouse, they started drinking alcohol, wearing human clothes, getting up later than all the animals but worst of all they were dealing with the humans. when most of the old animals had past away and there was only clover and Benjamin left they read the commandments again and it read 'all animals are equal, but animals are more equal than others'

animal farm is a great book and when it was written it was based on the communist party in Russia. characters such as Snowball and Napoleon were based on real life people.

Astronomy 365

This book shows all the wonderful activities that happen during the year, but to do with the solar system or the universe.
For example, how often does Comet Halley come across the night sky??

Skullduggery Pleasant: Playing with fire

The story line is very predictable. Even the blurb said:"You know how it is: you think you save the world, and then another villain shows up with an indestuctible monster and starts breaking things." In this sequel, Valkyrie and Skullduggery capture criminals and start a quest to stop Baron Vengeous from bringing back the faceless ones. Featuring all new characters, and untold stories, this book may be predictable-but the content is very gripping! I can't wait for the third book to be in our library!!!

railway line and waving to the passengers. They

help prove their father's innocence, and the

The Boy Who Lost His Face by Louis Sachar

In a 1989 suburban town, a boy named David tries to get in the cool group by helping his friend Scott, and two troublemakers named Roger and Randy (the former being the leader) carry out a prank. Their target was an elderly woman who was called a witch by all the kids in the neighborhood. When they attacked her and stole her cane David flips her off to try to impress Roger. But when they were leaving the old lady's house, she cried out to David "Your Doppelgänger will regurgitate on your soul!" The following days David finds himself experiencing strange happenings that lead him to believe that he is cursed. After being rejected by Roger and his gang, David finds himself becoming a loser. He breaks his parent's window, he walks into class with his zipper unzipped, he falls off his chair in class, and his only friends are fellow outcasts Larry and Maureen "Mo". His actions lead Rogers gang to target him and his friends, calling them "The Three Stooges". He becomes friendly with a cute girl named Tori Williams, but his pants fall down when he gets the courage to ask her for her phone number. Finally, his little brother, after being ridiculed by Roger's younger brother, loses all respect for David.

Eventually, David begs the elderly woman to remove the curse, but she asks for her cane to be returned first. As it turns out, Tori does not turn on him for his moment of humiliation, and tries to pretend that she had her eyes closed in thought to prevent David from becoming uncomfortable around her. David finally decides to fight for his dignity, and, with his friends and little brother by his side, he goes to face Roger's gang and get the cane back, not suspecting that many things, including the curse, are not as they seem.

Barry Trotter and the shameless parody

This entire book is a parody about Harry Potter. It's about Barry Trotter, (in his 11th year) who tries to stop a film being made about him. They come across the dork lord, Lord Valumort and his gang of Earth eaters. Barry gets to J.G Rollins and asks her to stop the movie. However, Lord Valumort kidnapps Barry and almost kills him, if it wasn't for the loyal jelly. But suddenly, the whole plot and everything turns out to be a plot for a Barry Trotter movie, in which the Aim of the main character is to stop another film being made about him! And in the end, it turns out to be a Word document which Barry typed up! Confusing? Read it and you will figure it out!

Paragraph structure for directing The Tempest

In Act, Scene 1 of The Tempest, Shakespeare shows Antonio to be a rude and offensive character when he writes,
“Hang cur! Hang you whoreson”
This is offensive as he is comparing the Boatswain to a “cur’, a …… and ……… animal. In addition, he calls him a “whoreson’ , insulting the Boatswain’s m….r and implying she is a …… I would direct the actor to say these lines in a …..voice to show his……. and I would make him move in a ….. With a …… expression

If you have any problems, please come and see me. Remember to write about the characters (Gonzalo, Sebastian and Antonio), the costumes/ props, the sound effects/ music and the conclusion!

Good luck!!

The Penultimate Peril

This book is, well, the penultimate book of the unfrotunate events series. (Penultimate means next to last) In this book, the Baudelaires work at a hotel (Hotel Denoument) while trying to observe who are the villains and who are the volunteers, as there is to be a meeting in a few days time. This is harder than expected, though, as the whole hotel uses the Dewey decimal system to allocate their guests.(A philosopher will stay on the first floor, just like books on philosophy will be on the section labeled: '100'.) As the situation unravels, the Baudelaires discover that the errands they did all contributed to a dastardly plot to intercept an important parcel.(the sugar bowl) But why is the sugar bowl so important? Read to find out!!

The End

This is 'book the last' of the unfortunate events series. The Baudelaires find themselves shipwrecked on and island inhabited by other castaways who were shipwrecked there too! They meet the leader, Ishmael, who banishes count Olaf from the settlement. However, count Olaf still manages to cause chaos by releasing a poisonous fungi into the island. Want to know the ending of The End? Read it now!
